My how time flies. I forgot all about blogging after I had my gastric bypass surgery January 31st, 2012. My focus was all about healing and getting released back to work and do the things I enjoyed like bicycling, exercising, motorcycle riding, etc, etc. Not only has time flown, but the pounds have dropped almost as fast. I woke up this morning and hit the scales and was happy to see that the clock has turned back 30 years. OK, the clock may not have actually turned back (flux capacitor is on the fritz again), but my weight has returned to that of my high school days. 120 pounds later, I feel better and am healthier than I have been in more than a quarter century. It hasn't been easy, but then nothing worth achieving is...
Along the way I've pushed myself to exercise more and set milestones that I never would have thought possible when this journey to a new me started. My motorcycle which I used to ride regulary has become jealous of my bicycle which gets taken out almost daily. I struggled to pedal 7 miles last August (OK, so it was 103 degrees in the middle of Houston August) but pedal I did. If not on the streets or trails, then in the gym on the stationary bike. Exercise went from being something I did because it was a means to an end; to something I look forward to doing because I enjoy it. I know also that my weight loss success is inextricably connected to my exercise. Both are dependent on the other. For the weight loss to continue I have to burn the calories and keep my metabolic rate jacked up. Losing the equivalent of a fashion model has made it more comfortable to exercise, thereby increasing the enjoyment factor. The endorphin high endurance exercises like long distance cycling give ensure that I will be back on my bike for another ride sooner rather than later; and have started me planning for some milestone distances Like 63 miles in a day in September and 50 miles over 2 days in October. American Diabetes Assn Tour De Cure and MS Alamo Ride to the River, I'm coming for you!!

The closer it gets, the faster the clock spins
Back in August when this reality was just a good idea, time seemed to move very slowly. Now, with only two days and a wake-up before my date with destiny the hands of time seem to be a blur.
